Game On

Will it be tonight? Or in two weeks? I don't know about you, but my stomach can't take much more of this guessing. What's needed here is some premonition...and I ain't got none. What about you?

Taking a page from the play book of my blogging buddy Bobby at Those Two Daddies, I'm now announcing a Baby Birth Betting Pool. Have a sense of when the little guy might show up? Got a good dose of experience with such things and willing to take an educated guess? Or just unable to resist the urge to gamble? Well, now's your chance to put it on the line!

Here's how this contest is gonna work:
  • Leave a comment on this post with the date and time the baby will be born. (And if you have a reason why you're putting your chips on that number, let me know.)
  • "Price is Right" rules: person who comes closest without going over wins!
  • You must post before we indicate we're on the road to greet him.
  • At some point, I'll announce the big winner and the amazing prize (hmmm...that's still TBD; but trust me, it won't be fabulous but it will be fun.)
To level the playing field, I'll share all of the relevant info now.
  • V.'s due date is Oct. 16th, but...
  • Her c-section is scheduled for Oct. 6th, and...
  • She and her doctor say it could be any time.
  • The baby's been in position and there have been other signs of eminent labor (do the words "mucus plug" mean anything to you?) for more than a week.
  • V.'s been telling us for about a week that she's experiencing contractions. But they aren't consistent.
  • Our counselor has told us she can't count the number of birth mothers who thought they were going into labor weeks before they actually did. I suspect that once they feel good about the adoption plan they've made, they are eager to get it over with.
  • V. told us tonight that she hasn't been feeling well. She has a cold.
  • She went into labor with her first son almost two weeks after his due date.
Let the game begin. Now, good luck and have fun!

What a great idea Kristin! Love it!!!! Okay, given the relevant info that you shared, I'll say sooner than later. Sooooo...... how does Sunday sound? Let's say, September 27th at 10:48am. I CAN'T WAIT to see you and Matt be parents!!!! I'm thrilled for the two of you...

Oh, I forgot to tell you why..... I picked 10:48 because Nathan was born at that time. I was trying to decide if I should say 12:13am (Jenna's birth time), but I could only pick one, and since you're having a boy, I picked my boy's time. Get it? ;-)

The GUT says I should go sooner - BUT since I think October is a pretty kickass month to be born (a la MY birthday) I'm gonna go with October 1st - early early early morning :) Let's say 3:55 am (since that's what time I woke up this morning when I couldn't sleep).

(Also, that's my friends birthday whose party I'm going to in your city. So there you have it!)

I'm voting October 6, which is the date of the c-section. I think doctor will have factored in a date that won't be too close to the actual due date so I feel good with the date. For time, I'm going to say 12:31 p.m. Can't wait to see how this all unfolds! SOOO happy for you and Matt.

October 3rd
I bet she can't sleep Friday night because of contractions she thinks are braxton hicks. Showers and paces for a while trying to get comfortable and goes back to sleep. Wakes up in the morning, goes to the bathroom...and her water breaks.

Is she going to try for a VBAC if she goes into labor in her own or are they just going to do the c-section? If they are just going to do the c-section, I think 8am. If she's trying to VBAC if she goes into labor...2pm. I guess that's two guesses...but you didn't give us all of the information...

I'm going to say October 1st too, but not until 5:56pm.

Good luck! I am waiting and hoping so many good things for all of you.

Thanks for the shout out...

I'm going to say October 4th at 6:35 PM...the time the full moon will rise in SoCal. I've always heard babies are born on the full moon. Besides, who wouldn't want to be born on Jackie Collins' birthday?
